Juki Leather Sewing Machine Reviews

We believe the Juki leather sewing machine is one of the best and here are two that we highly recommend. Juki is world renown for sewing quality and technology and you will not be disappointed in either machine!  Industrial machines are usually sold as a complete unit, including the machine head, table, stand, sewing light, drawer and motor assembled so all necessary components are installed and ready to sew.

This heavy duty lockstitch machine will do 2,500 stitches per minute and up to a 9mm maximum stitch length.  You can purchase with a servo or a more expensive clutch motor. It is a single needle walking, straight stitch, walking foot industrial sewing machine with a large bobbin.

The 1541S will do all that the 1541 does with a strong clutch motor and the added safety clutch mechanism (hence the “S”) that automatically engages if a problem occurs to prevent damage to the machine. The sewing machine release mechanism disengages the needle drive if it hits something to prevent damage or hurting the timing.

TechSew Industrial Leather Sewing Machine Reviews

TechSew is well known for their top-of-the-line industrial machines. You can spend upwards of $3000 on their top model. We recommend these two mid priced TechSew machines unless you are a company producing thousands of products a month.

This machine is designed for medium-heavy tack work, with heavy thread, which can be bottom fed without concern for tooth marks. If you want to do serious leather sewing like belts, horse tack, harnesses, holsters, bridles, horse blankets, tool belts, heavy webbing, and canvas…this is your machine. It easily tackles different leather weight from 2 layers of 3-4oz all the way to 2 layers of 10oz saddle skirts. The machine has a signature heavy-duty feeding mechanism for stitching that works with a 10.5-inch long cylinder bed, a roomy table and a built-in roller edge guide. The machine has a unique speed-reducer feature and adjustable-speed MartServo motor, giving you more control.

This machine is too heavy duty for small leather projects.  The smaller items (like purses or wallets) can get caught in the feed dogs, leaving an imprint. Remember, this is not a true compound walking foot sewing machine. It is bottom fed with sharp teeth that ensure positive feed. The footdog is not adjustable and the pressure foot is large and prohibits sewing a close edge. It is meant for sewing thick items where the bottom is not normally seen and will work great at your ranch sewing horse tack but it is not what you want if you are doing smaller leather items.

The Techsew 0302 is a step down from the 3650HD and is half the price. It is better for light to medium weight leather materials and has an adjustable speed servo motor.

Tippmann Boss Leather Sewing Machine Reviews

If you want something different that is made to be self-sufficient without any cords, outlets, or motors then try the Tippmann Boss Machine. This sewing machine is manufactured in the USA and is a portable hand stitcher that can be mounted or clamped to any surface.

Some people refer to the Tippman Boss Leather Sewing Machine as a hand crank leather sewing machine but it is actually a motor pulley. It starts with a simple pull of the handle and completes a precise lockstitch with each pull. It is built with extremely durable, precision cast, metal parts and is able to sew leather up to 3/4″ (19mm) thick and almost any other heavy material. It is very light (compared to the powered machines) so you can easily move it around or store away when not in use. Includes a thread stand, bobbin winder adapter, two bobbins, standard presser foot, one spool of #277 thread, tools, operator’s manual, and an assortment of 10 needles.
